Van Driver – Lewes 

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a van driver based at our Lewes Furniture Now! store.

Hours of work  37½ hours a week over 5 days, Monday to Saturdays on a rota basis, between 9am and 5pm including a 30min meal break.  Some Sunday working may be required at times.  Flexibility to the hours of work is essential to meet the demands of the organisation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Driving a vehicle and collecting and delivering furniture

  • Driving 3.5t ‘Luton’ style vehicle
  • Collecting and delivering both office and home furniture
  • Working with and supporting van assistants
  • Demonstrating high levels of customer service
  • Being the face of Now! Charity Group

Working in our retail store

  • Working with and supporting volunteers.
  • Serving customers and processing furniture donations.
  • Providing a high level of customer service at all times.
  • Undertaking manual handling as required.


  • Working as a team with other staff and volunteers.
  • Work efficiently and effectively to reduce costs.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety procedures, including manual handling, vehicle safety and all other good practise is adhered to.
  • Undertaking any manual handling as required.
  • Attend training and staff meetings as required.

Essential Requirements:

  • Able to work on own initiative.
  • Organised and able to work across the county at a variety of locations.
  • Excellent time-keeping.
  • Customer focussed.
  • Commitment to work as part of a team.
  • Awareness of health & safety.
  • Flexible approach to the work.
  • Capable of heavy lifting where mechanical assistance is not possible.
  • Good standard of written and spoken English.
  • Good level of numeracy.
  • Quick to learn and understand relevant procedures and processes.
  • Full clean UK driving licence held for over two years.

Store Manager – Lewes

A rare opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and innovative  retail professional to join our friendly team as the Lewes store manager. We are a local charity offering low cost furniture to the public along with opportunities for people to learn new skills and attend our workshops and training courses.

Working with us, no two days are the same so we are looking for someone fast thinking, unflappable and willing to go that extra mile.

Our focus is on helping East Sussex residents facing any disadvantage such as poverty, lack of qualifications or health issues. Our support helps build confidence and skills, as well as providing very low cost new and second hand  furniture and other household goods to those who need it most.

Perhaps you are currently a retail manager searching for a new challenge or maybe an assistant manager looking for career progression.

Hours of work 9am – 5pm 37.5 hrs p/w – flexibility over working days needed.

Job Overview:

  • Responsible for keeping sufficient stock through contact with donors and customers.
  • Organising daily stock collections and deliveries.
  • Required to work on the shop floor as well as administration tasks.
  • Responsible for supporting staff and volunteers.
  • Key holder responsibilities for the sites.
  • Provide cover for other sites to meet organisational needs.

Esential requirements:

  • Experience of co-ordinating/leading and managing staff and/or volunteers.
  • Possessing excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to get on with a wide range of people – both staff and customers.
  • Approachable and supportive.
  • Able to manage own workload and prioritise.
  • Ability to work with minimum of supervision
  • Able to maintain excellent financial records and general administration.
  • Computer literate: Word, Excel and e-mail
  • A level of physical fitness to be able to drive a van and move heavy items of furniture on a regular basis
  • At least 3 years retail experience – shop management.
