Heartless thief attacks Eastbourne branch of Now! Charity Group Ltd Charity is left feeling frustrated after second theft attack in one year
The vans are vital for the day – to – day running of the Charity’s many services, which include delivering and collecting furniture but also providing emergency ‘Home in a box’ packs and beds for such local residents as young people leaving care, those fleeing domestic abuse or for the homeless who have been rehomed.
This is the second time that the Charity has been a victim of a theft attack in Eastbourne as its shop was ransacked by thieves in July last year. There has been a noticeable increase in attacks on local Charities across East Sussex in the last 12 months leaving Charities feeling very vulnerable.
The Charity is hopeful that the police will make an early arrest as they have clear CCTV footage showing both the face of the thief and his vehicle registration number.
Despite feeling disheartened by the attack the Charity were then swiftly reminded of the goodwill and support they have locally, after receiving a donation of nearly £600 from Hasbridge Construction Ltd to cover the cost of replacing the fuel tank.
Ami O’Neill, one of the Directors at Hasbridge Construction Ltd said
“We were so shocked to hear about this mindless theft. Our team wanted to help immediately. Now! Charity Group Ltd provides such a range of valuable support for local people right here in East Sussex. We didn’t want their incredible work to stop for any longer than necessary because of this incident.
Now’s CEO, Petrina Mayson said
“We are extremely grateful for the donation from Hasbridge Construction Ltd. While an amount of £600 seems small to some, for us it changes lives. If we had spent £600 repairing the van then we would have had to decide whether to teach 6 less local people how to read, write and count or provide 10 less “house in a box” to people in crisis who have absolutely nothing. With the need for our services growing all the time we have to focus every penny we have on helping others not waste it on unnecessary things like this.
Fortunately due to this donation the Charity were able to get their van fixed straight away. Eastbourne Coach Finishers Ltd helped the charity by prioritising the repair so that the clients did not suffer as a result.
