I started as a trustee at Furniture Now (FN) in 2009 and became the Chair in 2011. I have a background in business and have worked in the public sector, (Business Link, University of Brighton) and private sector (Panasonic) in everything from Director level to business development. I joined FN as I saw an organisation that had so much potential in helping others and protecting the environment. It has been a privilege to see the charity grow and help more and more people in the local area during tough times. I now run my own social enterprise, Enterprise Exchange, helping ex -offenders and the unemployed into self employment. I am looking forward to a great new era for the Now Charity.
I am the Owner/Director of the HR Dept Eastbourne and a Chartered member of the Institute of Personnel and Development. Working in Human Resources for over 15 years, advising on people management issues and problems, I have always been interested in helping and supporting individuals in the workplace to achieve their full potential. I was delighted to join the Now Charity Group as a Trustee in early 2015.
I have worked in the public and community sectors in finance roles all of my working life. I came across the charity through my work with East Sussex Credit Union, and was impressed with its mission and vision. I aim to offer my experience and skills to make a positive difference to the way the charity manages its finances.
Having founded Lodge Group in 2000 and prior to that working in senior management positions in inner city Local Authority’s in London my career has been spent working with difficult to reach and engage vulnerable groups including homelessness, 16/17 year old care leavers, NEET young people, children and adults with Learning Disabilities and more. It was an easy decision for me to make when invited onto the Board of Trustees at Now Charity Group to bring my experience in supporting them with the fantastic work they do in reaching out to the people of East Sussex
As a Trustee I am delighted to be involved in The Now Charity Group and the brilliant work it does in helping to alleviate poverty in Sussex. I have 28 years management experience, including 8 years as a Senior Manager. I have been an independent HR and training consultant helping businesses improve through people for over 13 years. I am also a former Chair of a not for profit housing management company, and am currently Vice-Chair of governors at Seaford Head Academy.

Penelope’s career has mainly been within the charity sector in marketing and publicity, fundraising development and events with responsibilities for social media, web development, promotion and design and brings her knowledge, enthusiasm and commitment to the board.
