EMERGENCY Support in East Sussex – please help

Hello … and thank you so much for taking a moment to read this…

It’s frightening how quickly life changes and people like you and I can end up homeless and in crisis due to losing a job, sickness, relationship breakdown, mental health issues, your house being destroyed in a fire or flood or because you are fleeing domestic abuse. How long could you keep paying your mortgage for without working? What if you had no family and friends who could help?

If you become homeless, you may be eligible for a very basic room provided by the Council. You now have a roof over your head but what do you sleep on? Now! Charity administers a social fund project that can pay for beds and basic white goods, but no bathroom or kitchen essentials are provided. Imagine having a cooker but nothing to cook with and not even a toothbrush to keep yourself clean.

Now! Charity uses its own funds and reserves to provide local people in crisis with Emergency Packs that include towels, toothbrush, cutlery, saucepans, crockery, toiletries and more. A real life saver at a time when life is hard enough. Wouldn’t you be so thankful for this help if it was you?

To ensure everyone who needs an emergency pack can get one, we need to continuously raise funds to make sure this can happen. We want to give everyone the opportunity to maintain their dignity and be able to move on with building their confidence and ultimately getting into work.

Last year around 200 packs were supplied at a cost of £16,000 to Now! Charity. In 2016 there were nearly 200 families in East Sussex in temporary accommodation according to East Sussex County Council.

There are three ways you can help. Please choose whichever suits you best:

  1. Purchase essential items from our Amazon wish list that suit your budget https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/registry/wishlist/2H4U1TQAEN0TW/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_1. Once you are ready to purchase your items and come to delivery, there are two options:
    • You can have the items delivered to your address and drop them into any of our locations in East Sussex
    • Or when you get to the delivery options within Amazon, you can add our address as a new delivery address. Please send to:

      Sophie Stretton (Emergency Packs)
      3A Courtlands Road
      East Sussex
      BN22 8TR

If you choose this option your donation will be anonymous unless you email us at hello@nowcharity.co.uk and let us know about your purchase (which we’d love you to do!)

  1. Set up a monthly direct debit donation to support the creation of Emergency Packs. If you would like to support a specific location in East Sussex we can make sure that your money is used for packs delivered in that area. Please contact Sophie on 01323 887199.
  2. Donate items you purchase from any store from our shopping list below. Please email hello@nowcharity.org.uk to make arrangements to drop them into us

As a local East Sussex charity, we support residents facing any disadvantage such as poverty, lack of qualifications or health conditions. The help we provide is divided into three key areas – low cost furniture (Furniture Now!), providing a huge range of free training courses (via Training Now!) and Emergency Crisis Support. Our work helps over 35,000 East Sussex residents every year.

Thank you so much for your support – it could make a difference to someone you know. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Best wishes
