Now! Charity Group Ltd has been awarded £10,000 from Tesco PLC to run free gardening workshops in Eastbourne & Hailsham.

Now! Charity Group Ltd has been desperate to run a gardening project for many years but unfortunately hasn’t been able to, due to lack of funds and resources. In the last two years Now! Charity Group Ltd has supported over 400 local people to build their confidence and skills by holding a variety of free activity workshops including: Art, Cooking, Crafts, Woodwork, Knitting, Maths and English and as a result of this have supported many into voluntary work or employment. The Charity believe that running gardening workshops will allow them to reach out to more isolated people in the community and support them to connect with others and improve their wellbeing.

Petrina Mayson Charity CEO Says “We can’t thank Tesco enough for their generosity and support. We have worked with many local people who before joining us had very little or no social interactions. Unfortunately we know that there are more people in similar situations that we haven’t reached yet so the gardening project will enable us to reach these people and provide them with a regular social event in a relaxed and safe environment where they are able to develop their skills.’

The £10,000 has already enabled the Charity to take on a large allotment, purchase a range of gardening tools, plants and seeds and fund their experienced tutor.

The free gardening workshops run every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 9am and 4pm and they are available for anyone over 18 to join. Stay as long as you like or just drop in for an hour.
