Furniture Now! is a local charity that provides a free furniture pick up service in Eastbourne, Hailsham and Lewes.

We don’t just pick up furniture. We pick up white goods and many other household items that are donated too.  We then sell these in our low cost second hand furniture and household stores in Eastbourne, Hailsham and Lewes.   We rely on many volunteer and apprenticeship staff to run our operations as a local charity and we are proud to have made a big difference to many of their lives. Here are some of their stories.

Doug’s Story

Like many others, Doug started as a volunteer with us. We were really impressed with his commitment and work ethic as he worked 4 days a week from 9-5 pm.

Doug’s main roles were manning and upcycling in the Shabby Chic area, carrying out various tasks around the warehouse, manual handling, dealing with customer enquiries and helping out on the vans. His all round abilities were really appreciated and he became a valued member of the team.

After completing his work commitment with Seetec he was offered an apprenticeship with Training Now! which he has now completed and we are delighted to say that Doug is now employed as a full-time Van Driver’s Assistant working for our Hailsham and office furniture stores.

Doug has gone from being unemployed, becoming a volunteer to completing an apprenticeship course and he now works full time for us which involves him carrying out a really worthwhile role and one that the whole team relies on.

Doug commented:

“Furniture Now! has really changed my life and I feel as I am part of a second family”.

Wayne’s Story

Wayne also started as a volunteer at Furniture Now! His days primarily involved working in our office furniture warehouse, furniture deliveries and stock preparation, but he regularly got stuck in to whatever tasks needed doing around the place, for which we are very grateful.

Before Wayne came to us, he often experienced low moods, tended to worry about things and hadn’t felt he had a purpose for several years. However, he has developed a new found confidence which he puts down to the new skills he has learnt here and the value that he sees he brings to our work.

Wayne has gained numerous qualifications since joining us and he can proudly say that he played a pivotal role in the construction of our new training centre in Hailsham – a service that will benefit many more people living in the area.

Wayne came such a long way in a short space of time and his confidence rocketed so much that he applied for an apprenticeship role in our Eastbourne store.

Wayne says:

“Things weren’t so great before but since coming to the charity I have honestly never looked back! Voluntary work was something I didn’t really think about before, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it and found it to be very rewarding. I hope to find employment in the future whereby I can continue to help people.”

We are very pleased to say that Wayne was successful in his application and is now serving an apprenticeship with us !
