The Now! Charity Group welcomes Michael Ryan as its new Chief Executive this September.
After five years of significant change and growth under the leadership of Petrina Mayson, who has now moved on, the charity is very pleased to have secured a new Chief Executive.
Michael’s career to date has provided a diverse working background, ranging from post-16 education, sports governing bodies, tech start-ups and a non-profit organisation.
One of his career highlights is working for the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (formerly UNOSDP), delivering an International Youth Leadership Programme while in Japan during 2016.
Most recently, Michael held the position of Head of Operations with Big Youth Group in London’s Covent Garden. Big Youth Group’s mission is to improve the odds for young people across a range of support programmes, with its core purpose enabling people to learn the art of entrepreneurship and connect with leading industry professionals. It delivered a business accelerator event at Google’s UK Headquarters in May 2017 to support entrepreneurs aged 18-30.
When offered the role leading the Now! Charity Group he said he was delighted, explaining “Sussex is very much my home and I take upmost satisfaction witnessing how our incredible county and its people thrive.”
The award-winning Now! Charity Group has a strong and positive reputation for its effective and extraordinary impact on the lives of East Sussex residents. The organisation supports thousands of people every year, particularly those facing disadvantage due to poverty, lack of qualifications or health conditions.
There are two main parts – Furniture Now! and Training Now!
Furniture Now! sells donated domestic and office furniture, household items, along with brand new beds and white goods at stores in Eastbourne, Hailsham and Lewes. The stores have special lower prices for those claiming income support or living on low incomes.
Training Now! offers a wide range of support through workshops and accredited courses that help build confidence and skills to get members of our community back on their feet and into work.
Michael’s vision is for the Now! Charity Group to inspire communities across East Sussex, welcoming all those who believe in making a difference to join the charity on its journey. There are so many different ways to get involved, with a wide range of exciting volunteer opportunities.
